Racial Equity Summit focuses on power of community

This November, advocates for equity will gather in St. Louis to bring people together to elevate the people, practices and resources necessary to achieve racial equity. The Community Impact Network is a proud sponsor of the 2023 Racial Equity Summit.

The summit themed “Together We Rise: The Power of Community” will take place from Nov. 9-11 at America’s Center Convention Complex. There will also be an option to attend virtually. Attendees can register for the summit here.

The summit has three focus areas:

  • Awareness of Inequity: To engage participants in building their awareness of systemic inequities that exist in the regions — from education to housing to healthcare and beyond.
  • Understanding of Why Inequity Exists: To help participants to gain an understanding of the systemic issues at hand and build a plan for how to address them, perhaps looking at successful tactics in St. Louis or other regions.
  • Transforming Towards Equity: To share ready-made and pressure-tested strategies for taking action. We will look to the leadership of local leaders of color to share actions that can be taken against structural inequities right now.

Poet Nikki Giovanni will be the keynote speaker along with other racial equity leaders in the region. Session topics include racial equity in education, resident-led neighborhood planning, mental health access, anti-racist leadership, equity in nature and more.
