Operation Food Search program joins nutrition, health care

Starting this holiday season, adults with hypertension and/or diabetes are able to get better access to some of life's basic needs thanks to Operation Food Search.

At Fresh Fork Market in Ferguson, adults who suffer from these ailments can shop for free refridgerated, fresh and shelf-stable food items. The market opened in mid-November, and is housed in the Mercy Clinic in Ferguson. The market is part of Operation Food Search's larger Food as Medicine initiative.

These healthy foods are available every Wednesday this holiday season. Registered adults can pick up the equivalent of three meals for their family each week during the program. They can work with dieticians and get recipes to help them develop heart-healthy eating habits.

KMOV featured the market on the news this week, and you can watch that segment here.
