Free Child-Parent Relationship Training

Referrals Needed in the St. Louis Area for Grant Funded Project for 2019-2020 School Year!

Child-Parent-Relationship Training (CPRT) is a research-based, 8 week parenting course that teaches caregivers how to use some of the same skills play therapists use to help children experiencing social, emotional, or behavior problems. Caregivers can learn to regain control, effectively discipline, understand emotional needs, and improve communication.

Eligibility criteria: C-P-R Training groups are open to any caregivers of children with a parent in prison. Children must be between ages 3-12, having social-emotional or behavior problems at home or school, and not in other therapy. All participants receive 8 weeks of free parenting classes. We also provide childcare, dinner, Metro passes, a toy kit, and up to $70 in Walmart gift cards for full participation. Groups meet after school hours in Ritenour School District (Fall '19) & SLPS (Spring '20).

Please help spread the word about this free opportunity for caregivers of children of incarcerated parents affiliated with the UMSL Counseling Program. The attached brochure has the times for the fall semester and can be shared with eligible caregivers. All caregivers must be screened and complete the intake paperwork to be able to attend.

Space is limited. Contact Breon Rose from UMSL at 872-216-1296 to learn more.
